“Unrequired Reading”

This is an article about the reading habits of students at Brooklyn College that both manages to read as lighthearted and snooty. The tone is set by a New Yorker-esque cartoon at the top of the article, illustrating a couple strolling on the campus.

More importantly, it is another demonstration of reporting that sets the humanities and sciences in opposition. It claims that “anti-intellectualism runs rampant,” and also that science students demonstrate an interest in the humanities. Liberal arts students, however, are said to be disinterested in the sciences.
