Renée Diones-Cahill
from the Hunter Envoy
circa 1987
This project is dedicated to my mother, Renée Diones-Cahill, the first woman in her family to graduate from college. She attended Hunter 30 years prior to me. Growing up, I never would have thought that we would have the same alma mater – but I am proud to follow her and generations of Hunter women before us.
I am also deeply grateful to the women of the Futures Initiative and CUNY Graduate Center: Cathy N. Davidson, Shelly Eversley, Lauren Melendez, Christina Katopodis, and Adashima Oyo. They have all inspired me to fight for equity in education, and to make CUNY the best place that it can be.
I thank Dr. Shelly Eversley for serving as my advisor, and Dr. Anna Akasoy for being my first and last professor in the Graduate Center’s MALS program. Both of you have supported me and encouraged me to be my best scholarly self.
Finally, I thank Enrique Rodreguez Brito and Lo Dulmage for keeping me sane – and for making CUNY work for them.
